Background of the Study

General Santos City is known as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines. 

     Every year, tuna companies all over the town exports tons of sea foods especially tuna. The town is also known as a place where champions are born. There are many events and festivals that are celebrated around General Santos City. The most awaited festival is the spectacular “TUNA FESTIVAL”. It started on September 5, culminated on September 26, 2010.

          During the festival, different events and activities are held all over the town. Some of these events are; float parade in Pioneer Avenue, Mardi Gras Competition held in Lagao Gym, Beach Volley challenge and other sports challenge in Queen Tuna Park, Fish Dance in Gaisano Atrium, Mr & Miss Gensan 2010 and the highlight of the festival is the “Disco sa Kalye”.

     International and local foreigners really admire what Generals have. They went to the town once a year to witness this events and happenings. The local government of General Santos City always makes sure the security of every individual who will witness the event. Tuna Festival is a significant event that comprises the tourism production of General Santos City.
